Let it Snow

I am not sure why, but the fatigue I have related to my acquired brain injury seems to be getting worse lately, since I returned from Disneyland a couple of weeks ago. Perhaps I am still “recovering” from having so much fun! I woke up this morning to about 8 inches of beautiful, peaceful snow in my yard, with more still falling. I decided to skip tai chi class due to the road conditions, and fire up the snowblower. I got bundled up, ready to go outside, and was so tired I had to lay down. I meditated for about 20 minutes and found myself engaging in some negative self-talk about how I would never be able to blow the snow because of the fatigue, and depending on others for help was a huge bummer. OK, that was enough. I switched to coaching self talk: “You can do this!” “It will be fun!” “Once you get started, you’ll be fine!” So I went for it. It was really fun. I blew snow directly into my own face a few times and it just cracked me up. As I passed the tree in the front yard, the branches pulled of my beanie, three times!  It was delightful.  My neighbor was out and gave me a few tips (like “Slow down!”). My coaching self-talk worked. I really can do this, it was fun, and once I got started, I was fine.
And now I think I’ll go lay down….
